Ohio Rocker Lamont 'Bim' Thomas' Obnox Visits Bay

By Orion Dallman

Given how we grew up, Midwest kids wilting under the shadow of real Midwest rock, Lamont 'Bim' Thomas should be an iconic hero. A stalwart madman who reminded Columbus Ohio that rock could be punk and punk could be whatever you make it.

Rising triumphant from the ashes of Don Howland's The Bassholes, Bim has continued to distinguish himself, and anyone associated with him as a straight up contender. Care to check out his Bona Fide's? Look back into the fore mentioned Bassholes, and then go deeper with The Puffy Areolas, Flipping Hades, critically acclaimed and mathy badass This Moment In Black History and, of course, Ohio legends, My Uncle Wayne.

Given San Francisco's recent proxy eviction of many rock and roll artists, the fact that Bim, as Obnox will be playing in the Bay Area is a boon to a scene that is fighting the good fight and valiantly keeping it's head above water.

You might approach such a show as a punk outing, or a rock moment. What you'd be missing is the fact that Bim is 'The Soul Of Rock' incarnate. Whether its trashy garage rock, hip-hop, soul or metal, Bim leads his two man hit-squad to sonic victory.

Maybe you remember that glorious moment in your childhood when you were not anything yet, when style did not matter, when you just liked what you liked... yeah, Nox is a bit like that. Bim just likes what he likes and takes you on an audio safari with him. Like it or love it, ya got no choice but to ride along.
